Each line
How the number is built
The same order your payslip uses.
- Annual CTC
- What the offer letter says the job costs the company in a year: fixed pay plus any guaranteed bonus.
- Employer PF
- The company's 12% PF share. It is counted inside most Indian CTCs, but it goes to your PF account, not your bank.
- Gratuity
- About 4.81% of basic, set aside each year. You receive it when you leave after five years of service.
- Gross salary
- What is left to be paid to you through payroll before your own deductions.
- Your PF
- 12% of basic from your side. Many companies cap it at ₹1,800 a month. It is your savings, so it comes back with interest.
- Professional tax
- A state tax on employment, up to ₹2,500 a year. Some states, such as Delhi and Haryana, don't charge it.
- Income tax
- Worked out on gross salary less the ₹75,000 standard deduction, with the new regime slabs, the rebate up to ₹12,00,000 of taxable income, and 4% cess. Your employer deducts it every month as TDS.
Questions
Salary questions
Why is my in-hand so much lower than CTC divided by 12?
Because CTC counts money that doesn't reach your bank each month: the employer's PF, gratuity and any yearly bonus. Your own PF, professional tax and income tax come out after that.
Does this cover the old tax regime?
No. It uses the new regime, which is the default and suits most salaried people now. If you claim HRA, home loan interest or 80C under the old regime, your tax will differ.
My CTC includes a bonus paid once a year. What changes?
Your monthly in-hand is lower than shown, and the bonus arrives as one payment after tax. The yearly total stays about the same.
What does this leave out?
Variable pay that isn't guaranteed, ESOPs, reimbursements such as fuel or phone, meal cards, employer NPS and any loan or advance recovered through payroll.
